Freediving in Italy

Course structure

 

Prerequisites: Must be able to swim, minimum age 16 years

 

 

Day 1

 

Classroom/Theory

 

  • Introduction to Freediving

  • Physiology for Freediving

  • Depth and pressure

  • Familiarization with equipment

  • Duck-dives – Effective underwater entry technique

  • Kicking technique

  • Equalization techniques

  • Hydration and diet

  • Breath-hold session

  • Breathing techniques

  • Recovery breathing

  • Warm up breath-holds on land before entering the water

     

    Confined Water Session
     

  • Supervised breath-hold session in water (Static Apnea)

  • Practicing entry and fining techniques

  • Swimming underwater covering distance (Dynamic Apnea session)

 

 

  • Day 3

     

    Open Water Session 3

     

  • Warm up dives

  • Training dives

  • Buddy team work

  • Safety procedures and practice including rescue techniques from 10m

  • Maximum freedives on the dive-line of up to 20 metres depth

     

    (Optional) Visit local dive-site for underwater exploration of corals, tropical fish and reef.
     

  • Final Exam and course completion.

The Level 1 Freediving course is the essential foundation freediving course covering the necessary skills and knowledge for the recreational freediver.
Ready to begin your freedive adventure?

This beginner foundation course will enable you to feel safe and comfortable when freediving to depths of up to 20 meters. Although this might sound difficult to achieve in a few days, you will be surprised at how much you can achieve through the effective structure of the course program in the classroom and water sessions.

You will learn to safely freedive with or without a guide line in 4 different disciplines of freediving: Static, Dynamic, Constant Weight and Free Immersion.

In the Open Water sessions we will cover the basic freedive skills such as equalizing, duck diving, vertical swimming, body positioning.

The Level 1 Freediving Course runs for 2.5 days and is divided into 2 theory lessons, 1 confined water session and 3 open water sessions.

At the completion of the Lvl 1 Freediving Course, you will receive a certification.

  • Freediving disciplines

  • Freediving safety - Black-Out and Loss of Motor Control; what is it and how to avoid it.

  • What effects your dives and how a to relate to scuba diving.

  • Learn basic freediving yoga

     

    Open Water Session 1
     

  • Preparation of equipment

  • Practice of efficient breathing technique in the water

  • Practice of duck-dives and kicking technique

  • Buoyancy test

  • Freedives on the dive-line swimming down vertically

  • Maximum depth of 12 metres

     

    Open Water Session 2
     

  • Warm up dives

  • Practice breathing technique

  • Training dives

  • Maximum freedives on the dive-line of up to 16 metres
